Have you ever heard of the kimono, the traditional Japanese costume?
For over 1300 years, this exquisite and beautiful attire has been cherished, evolving its form over time. Among them, Yuzen, a dyeing technique developed in Japan, is a rare method worldwide, supported by a select few top-notch artisans in Japan. The fabric of Yuzen is the finest silk produced in Japan. On it, artisans who have been trained for many years draw pictures. The fine patterns can be dyed in different colors, resulting in rich and colorful garments.
The Future of Kyoto Yuzen
As a culmination of numerous sophisticated techniques, Kyoto Yuzen creates a single kimono. The producer of these kimonos, known as "Senshō" (染匠), governs a system indispensable for the transmission of these techniques and designs. Senshō, with their refined sensibility, not only devises the design and colors of the kimono but also oversees all aspects of its creation. Hand-painted Yuzen, representing Japan's beautiful tradition and kimono culture, has evolved over its long history and continues to be passed down to the present day. Serving as a representative decorative culture and design opinion leader of Japan, it seeks to actively contribute to various fields as it moves towards the future.
